A leave from office - just like that
It had been a long time since I took a leave —
not because I was unwell, not because of an emergency,
but simply… just like that.
January 1st, which I thought would be a quiet workday, turned out to be an unexpected energy drainer.
By the end of the day, I was exhausted — mentally more than physically.
I had already told my boss that on January 2nd I might either come in late, or not come in at all if things got too delayed.
Truth be told, I was already leaning towards taking a leave — not to do something important, but to do nothing at all.
That tiring first day was all the motivation I needed.
So yes, I bunked office.
And bunked is the right word — I left home dressed as if I were going to work 🙂
I carried my breakfast, lunch, and snacks with me and headed to our vacant flat.
There, I simply was.
I sat.
I lay down.
I had multiple rounds of coffee.
I ate, rested, spoke to friends, did a bit of binge-watching.
No rush. No agenda.
I ended the day with some self-pampering — a hair spa — the perfect closing note.
And once again, I realised something simple yet powerful:
Doing nothing is absolutely fabulous.
It gave my mind a pause.
A sense of calm.
Especially after I consciously decided not to respond to office calls or messages post noon.
I think I’ll do this once every two or three months —
a quiet, intentional break for a mental reset.
